I think Cates could crack the lineup easier than the rest since his game should transfer to the NHL more easily than a top-6 player. Not saying it's a sure thing or that another guy can't crack the top-6, but Cates seems like he's already playing an NHL bottom-6 game.

Mid 80’s was one of the nhl’s best era’s.

I wish the nhl network would broadcast a 20 or 30 block of games from one of Gretzky’s 200 point seasons. I remember checking the box scores after every oilers game and being amazed how he could put up 3 points every night.
Then think that he had 4 seasons over 200 points. Gretzky often had more assists than the second place player had points. Maybe Babe Ruth was as dominate compared to his peers but I’d answer Gretz if asked that question.
When you see Gretzky play a game, you are amazed. When you see him game after game, that is when you truly become dumbfounded by how completely he dominated hockey for close to a decade.
People argue that Bobby Orr was just as dominant as gretz, but I don’t believe it. If you put prime Gretzky in the league today, I still think he puts up 170 points regularly. Prime Bobby Orr is just a Norris candidate defenseman in today’s game.

LOL. Prime Bobby Orr was regularly among the top 3 or so in scoring as a defenseman among a group of forwards. Prime Orr was a game changer with unbelievable skill who changed how the game is played.

I work at a Costco depot in Van buren Michigan. We’re doing ten hours a day, six days a week. The stay at home law is in effect. It’s a crazy time. I feel like I’m being over worked but I have to learn to appreciate that I can work, while many can’t even leave their house.

With this said, not really keeping up with the NHL news. Sounds like they’re holding out hope before canceling the season. I think I would finish the season during the summer. July-ish. Hopefully it ends by October. Start a new post lockout season in January and start over.

As someone who’s old enough to have watched Bobby Orr play in his prime, he was anything but “ just a Norris candidate defenseman in today’s game.” He was a genuine force. Doubt there will ever be another dman like him again.

Not trying to get into a political back and forth, but our reality is we have a leader who wants to push people back out there. If it SHOULD be done isn’t the point, the point is if it’s done that opens the doors for all business to try and recoup WHATEVER they can as fast as they can.

Everyone knew the next couple weeks were gonna be ugly and telling of where we stand. Let’s just hope the reality matches the stance of the peeps in charge. I hope for all of us the news is good!

Prime Bobby Orr was one of the NHL's best shutdown defensemen on top of being an offensive force on par with the very best forwards.

He had no peer. He is the best defenseman in NHL history.

I enjoyed watching Deborah Birx in the brief yesterday, she is very data driven, a doctor, highly educated,served in the military and she is from PA, LOL

When people speak of ORR it should sound like it's all caps.
He 'broke' through in '69/70 with 120 points.
While you can dismiss +/-, if you are so inclined, when it hits 124+ in 78 games, you may gasp anyway. (The Great's best number was +98 in 80 gms.)
He also had a toughness that is displayed in his PIMs. Six foot and under 200 pounds.
Nobody could catch him and nobody could stop him. Getting past him was a task few ever succeeded at. In that ASTOUNDING YEAR OF 70/71, HE WAS ON THE ICE FOR FIFTEEN GOALS, FIFTEEN.
That averages out to a goal every fifth game or so.
What amazed me most was his skating. I assume YouTube has his skate, literally, around the rink when he embarrassed the opposition for about 25 seconds. Then his knees departed town but he was still capable for a number of years.
GOAT to me but I favor defensive guys. Their's are the toughest positions in every sport and (I'm from Philly and I'm waiting on some solid belts every play.) the first rank players in D play against the highly paid and promoted headliners. I feel good when they knock 'em down a peg.
ORR took no prisoners, was a great, loyal teammate and his like has yet to be seen again.
Oh yeah, I hate the Boo-ins.
